"Cavy House" is a small, home-based guinea pig rescue. We are located in La
Honda, which is in the northern end of the Santa Cruz mountains, between
Redwood City and San Gregorio beach. We rescue guinea pigs who have run out
of time at local shelters. We provide the necessary medical care, TLC and
care and then place them into forever, loving homes. We started rescuing
guinea pigs in April, 2006 and have placed over 500 guinea pigs in our first
3 years..
We are part of the Rabbit Haven, a 501(c)3 organization. To find out
more about Rabbit Haven, go to
TheRabbitHaven.org. Auntie Heather of the Rabbit Haven has many
years of experience in rescue and has given us lots of advice and support.
Cavy House is run by Sue D. and Barbara C. Barbara is a Registered
Veterinary Technician and a "crazy cat lady". Sue has a BS in Animal Science from UCDavis.
They have a lifetime of experience with many species of animals. Barbara and
Sue also run La Honda Mountain Cats rescue, which is not connected with the
Rabbit Haven..
Our current pets include several cats, 2 Labrador retrievers, a lhaso apso
mix, a peacock, a
parrot, a rabbit, 2 cockatiels, and 2 Peruvian guinea pigs, Most of our pets are rescues.
We meet
potential adopters either at our home in La Honda or at adoption fairs
throughout the bay area.
Our
goal is find homes for all guinea pigs who are in bay area shelters.
We will gladly direct you to guinea pigs available in local shelters as well
as guinea pigs in our rescue and other local rescues.
