A copy of your contract and first follow up letter will be received usually within 7 days of your adoption. Please call us with any questions. We are here to help.
1. I agree to provide proper housing, sanitary conditions, and good care for my guinea pig(s). I have been given education information regarding the care and needs of a guinea pig. I agree to follow these care instructions. The guinea pig will be considered a member of your family and not kept off in a place where they are isolated. Guinea pigs are wonderful and need social interaction. Consider a pair!
2. I agree to see that this guinea pig has adequate veterinary attention. Usually a guinea pig sees their doctor once a year. Additional vet visits may be needed if your guinea pig develops problems. Standard treatment for mites, fleas, parasites or for any injury the pig may sustain post adoption, as well as annual exams, are expected of all adopters.
3. If this is a special needs guinea pig, medical information from our vet will accompany the guinea pig with adoption. Referrals will be made to veterinarians with your adoption. We ask that you take you guinea pig to see the vet of your choice within 2 weeks of your adoption. Having a great exotics vet is important for your New Guinea pig!
4. I agree to treat this guinea pig with love and respect. I will not allow the pig to be mistreated in any manner. If I have children in the home, I agree to train the children re proper handling, care and I agree to supervise their playtime with the guinea pig so the pig will not be accidentally injured.
5. I promise to treat my guinea pig as a member of my family and to provide a safe and loving home, a proper guinea pig diet, and veterinary care. I will provide my guinea pig pellets, timothy hay, vitamin C, vegetables and fresh water daily. I will shelter them in proper housing, always indoors.
6. I have read the education materials provided by Cavy house. If I need additional information, I agree to call Cavy house or to obtain information from my vet.
7. I understand that I can return the guinea pig to Cavy House for any reason. To return a guinea pig, contact the Director (Sue Duhamel) to make these arrangements.
8. I agree that I will not use these guinea pig(s) for breeding, as food for other animals, or lab testing.
9. If renting, I confirm that I have permission from the landlord to have an indoor animal.
10. I understand that, if these agreements aren’t kept, The Cavy House may reclaim the guinea pig after attempts have been made to remedy the problem(s)
11. I agree not to euthanize the guinea pig who develops a treatable condition. If financial constraints are the issue, the adopter may call Cavy House to find out about assistance, and other options.
12. Adopting a guinea pig is a lifetime commitment. If for any reason I can’t keep the guinea pig, I will return it to Cavy House or get obtain written permission from Cavy House before re-homing the guinea pig. We can assist you in this process if we cannot resolve the need to re home. It is the intent of Cavy House that the guinea pig(s) have permanent, loving, safe indoor homes.
