Guinea Pigs in SF Bay Area Shelters

Can't find what you want at our rescue or we're too far to drive? There are many guinea pigs in bay area shelters looking for homes. Please consider giving these piggies homes too. You can try www.petharbor.com and www.petfinder.org to search for animals needing homes who are currently in rescues or shelters. You may want to check with the shelter before going to to see the animal to ensure that it is still there and available for adoption. Some have not passed their mandatory holds yet.

Lots of people advertise their guinea pigs on www.craigslist.org.

We don't recommend buying guinea pigs from the major chain pet stores. There have been way too many stories from adopters who come to us after getting a pet store piggy just to have it die a few days later. This has sadly happened a few times in a row for some people. The guinea pigs are often miss-sexed and countless times owners have been surprised to find out their "male" piggy is pregnant.

Guinea pigs are pregnant roughly 70 days - and we can't normally detect a pregnancy until the 6th week of pregnancy - but we will always give you our assessment as to the likelihood of pregnancy, how far along they could be and we will ALWAYS take the babies and/or mom back if wanted.
