Hot Weather Warning

Please keep your critters cool during the hot weather. Guinea pigs comfort range is 65-75 degrees. At 85, they are very uncomfortable and are at risk for heatstroke. They are more susceptible to heat than many animals and could die without some help from you. Keep them out of the direct sunlight and in a cool part of the house. They really appreciate frozen water bottles put in the cage with them, shown above.  Some people blow fans past wet towels.

Symptoms of heatstroke  may include lethargy, closed eyes, and bright red ears and feet. If you suspect your piggy might have heatstroke, contact your vet immediately or get the piggy to a vet immediately

Syringing Pedialyte has also been recommended to some to help them keep hydrated. Popcicle peppers (frozen bell peppers), watermelon bits, or what ever else you decide to freeze are good treats to.
