How You Can Help:

There are many ways you can help.  Our aim is to make sure that every guinea pig in the shelters get a loving, forever home. You can:

bulletAdopt a guinea pig from us
bulletFoster a guinea pig for us
bulletAdopt a guinea pig from a shelter
bulletHelp transport guinea pigs (we often need help getting the guinea pigs from the shelters to us)
bulletDonate vegetables, feed, money etc. Note: We buy our hay and pellets in bulk size (50 lb bags of guinea pig pellets, horse-size bales of bedding, and horse-size bales of hay) from feed stores like An-Jan and Half Moon bay Feed and Fuel, instead of pet food stores at a great cost savings. If you're interested in buying feed, bedding or hay to donate, we'd like to recommend Half Moon Bay Feed and An-Jan Feeds so we can get the most value for your dollar.
bulletHelp advertise guinea pigs in shelters that need homes (craigslist etc)
bulletCozy Cuddle Cups: Our rescue guinea pigs love using Cozy Cuddle Cups as featured on www.CozyCavy.Com  You can donate a Cuddle Cup to the rescue of your choice (hopefully it's us (Cavy House)). Cuddle Cups donated directly to rescues get a special discount.
bulletCash:  Checks can be made to "Cavy House" and sent to Cavy House, Sue DuHamel, PO Box 324, La Honda, Ca. 94020. If you'd like to make a tax-deductible donation, you can make it through our parent organization, the Rabbit Haven. http://www.therabbithaven.org/cash_donations.htmPLEASE NOTE: You must indicate the donation is for the guinea pigs for us to receive it.   You can donate through PayPal using this email: sbduhamel@sbcglobal.net (We should have a Cavy House address implemented soon).
bullet(more items will be added as we think of them)

Guinea pigs come to us from all over the bay area. We rescue from shelters in San Jose, Santa Clara, Watsonville, Scotts Valley, San Francisco, Berkeley, Martinez, Sacramento and other shelters. We can't always get out to these shelters due to time constraints etc. if we had people who were willing to pick up guinea pigs for us and drive them either part way or all the way to our home in La Honda or to my job in San Jose (near 237/Zanker Rd/880/Montague expressway) it would help a lot.

Our $25 adoption fees cover only a small part of our costs.

In 2006, our costs for our cat and guinea pig rescue were 4 times that of our adoption fees we took in. Any donations are appreciated.  You can make a tax deductible donation through our parent organization, The Rabbit Haven. If you donate through them, please note somehow that the donation is for the guinea pigs or the rabbits will get it instead (which is cool too). If you want to donate directly to us, you can either send us a check or you can donate through PayPal using sbduhamel@sbcglobal.net as the recipient. We hope to have a separate PayPal account for our rescue in the future.
