Surrendering Your Guinea Pig

Cavy Spirit has some good advice regarding surrendering your guinea pig: Surrendering your guinea pig.

You can advertise on www.craigslist.org. We recommend requesting at least a $20 adoption fee to avoid your pet becoming snake food. If someone isn't willing to give you at least $20 for your piggy, they probably won't invest any money in veterinary care,

We do sometimes consider owner surrenders, depending on space availability. Our priority is always the guinea pigs at local shelters, who usually don't have any time left and will be euthanized if not rescued.

We are not subsidized by tax payer's money or any other source like the county shelters and SPCAs are. All funding comes from adoption fees, boarding fees, donations and a lot of our own personal money. We do request a donation to help cover our costs, which are much higher than our adoption fees.

$50 is the suggested donation for each guinea pig. Special needs would suggest more. Guinea pigs are housed in 2' x 4' cages with one pair of piggies in each cage. They receive daily veggies in addition to their pellets and hay. They receive whatever veterinary care they need.

If you're surrendering a single un-neutered male  guinea pig, we will need to have them neutered so that they can be paired with a female. We do not require this for a bonded pair of un-neutered males since they will be placed together. Neuterings cost us $45, so we will request an extra $45 donation for each un-bonded male to cover our costs.

Financial Hardship: If you are suffering financial hardship such as losing your home and can't afford the surrender fee, you may contact us about reducing or eliminating the surrender fee.
